Hero's Dilemma 01-10

Chapter 1, page 10

SURELY showing compassion towards an emotionally vulnerable rival will lead to no consequences whatsoever.

010 - So it begins

Well, at least coloring it didn't take as long this time. I think I'm getting the hang of this.
However, this will be the last page of this comic. I've run out of steam for a number of reasons.
For one thing, this part of the story is a lot of dialog. When it comes to graphic media like comics, visually active scenes like action and such are generally more fun than extended scenes of dialog (especially when nothing else is happening). And such scenes are even less fun to draw.
Secondly, it is taking me too long to do each page, which is more draining than the emotional return is worth. In other words, I will have to learn how to draw, color, and edit pages more time-effectively before I can do more comics (which I do plan to do eventually).
Finally, and maybe this is kind of a universal issue, but I kind of feel like I'm not really good enough yet. I feel like, for my age, I should be better at drawing. At least before taking on an endeavor of this size. My self-expectation is always a little higher than my self-perceived skill level. Either way, it has been a long time since I have drawn this much, and I still feel a bit out of practice. It's as if I had stopped going to the gym, and in my absence, everyone else has surpassed me in fitness and strength. Trying to return to the gym once more, the place feels oddly unfamiliar, and it's a little intimidating. Especially when there are teenagers here half my age who could out-run, out-lift, and out-wrestle me. Metaphorically speaking.

But enough of my ranting. How was your day?

(Also, don't ask what happened to Paragon's muscles. I'm still not very good at consistent proportions.)

Comments, questions, feedback, and constructive criticism are always welcome here.

  1. So, I just stumbled upon this webcomic, and I'd like to mention that I enjoyed this short-lived comic for a variety of reasons:
    1. It has great character staging and camera angles
    2. I can sympathize with the "gah why is this taking so long" sentiment when coloring is involved.
    3. The character expressions remind me of the Phoenix Wright games

I hope this isn't the last of your webcomicking adventures! You really have a lot of potential--especially with your passion for writing. Many of my webcomic attempts fall flat due to lack of plot (and background coloring--o! the background coloring!). >u<

Anywhoozles, thanks for the fun ten pages!
    DFTBA!

    1. Hi Snapdragon!
I'm really glad you enjoyed this little comic of mine.
If you're interested, the rest of the story (and more) is available to read here: http://willdabeast-0305.deviantart.com/gallery/45551074/Hero-s-Dilemma-Story
Well, I am currently working on the ending, but that will be up within a month.
And I actually am planning a new webcomic. It's not up yet, but I plan to start posting sometime next month. I'll post more here, on my Deviant Art page, on my other blog: http://wjbstories.blogspot.com/
      And on twitter: https://twitter.com/WilliamJBowles

I hope you can find something that you like and can do consistently.

And don't forget to be awesome!

    2. Hello again!
I don't know if you'll see this or not, but that other web comic I mentioned? It's up!
Actually, it's been up for a while now, and I actually have to go on temporary hiatus in December, but this is something I want to continue for as long as I can.
It's called "Outcast Kingdom", and you can see it from page one here: http://willdabeast-0305.deviantart.com/art/Outcast-Kingdom-1-01-478450353
In fact, I think it's going significantly better than Hero's Dilemma. HD was written as a story in prose, and doesn't translate to comic form particularly well, whereas OK is written as a comic, so it it's going better.

      Excuse my rambling.

Thanks again for enjoying Hero's Dilemma! It really means a lot to me to know that it is appreciated :D
I hope that you will like either Outcast Kingdom or the original literary version of HD (or both) at least as much.

      DFTBA!
